Dear Mr. Goode,

On behalf of myself and other consumers in the Philadelphia region and the state of Pennsylvania , I would like to file a complaint against Kreider Farms for false representation and false advertising.

Kreider Farms is an egg and dairy production company whose main address and phone number are:

On it's website, www.kreiderfarms.com , the company states “It should be no secret that animals (like people) are most productive when they are happy and well treated…Kreider Farms has always been a leader in the development of first rate animal husbandry care. As a result…happy chickens lay lots of top quality eggs!” The consumer is informed that the chickens in Kreider Farms' egg production facilities are “happy” and “well-treated.” Undoubtedly, such considerations affect the choice to buy or not to buy for many consumers.

However, the reality is that the egg-laying hens in Kreider Farms' facilities are neither well-treated nor happy. As you can view on the enclosed DVD, the footage on which was taken at three of Kreider's five egg production facilities, the chickens would not be considered to be “well-treated” or “happy” by the average consumer. Similarly, animal welfare experts who have viewed the video and/or are familiar with these “battery cage” conditions have asserted (see the attached statements) that the conditions depicted in the video are inhumane, that the birds are poorly treated, and that they suffer from a variety of both physical and psychological ills as a result of their treatment. They are certainly not the “happy” chickens Kreider Farms claims to raise.

On behalf of myself and other consumers in the Philadelphia region and the state of Pennsylvania who are being deceived by these false and misleading statements of Kreider Farms, I enjoin you to contact the company and ask them to remove the above-quoted statements and any similarly false or misleading statements from their website and any other public relations documents, brochures, product information and/or packaging, and similar.
