Great News Coverage for VegPA.net!

VegPA.net continues to get great local coverage, this time with a big spread on the cover of the Philadelphia Daily News’ weekend section! Click here to check out this great story, which includes info about lots of veg-friendly Philly restaurants, and don’t miss the sidebar stories about vegan recipes and vegetarian sandwiches at 7-11! ( http://www.philly.com/dailynews/features/20080131_veggie_interesting.html )

Take Action Now!

We need you to please take one minute to make a few very important emails! First, please email Gayle and Vintage restaurants and encourage them not to serve foie gras! Both have spoken with HFP, are not currently serving foie gras (though they have previously) and have expressed that they are not attached to the dish – it’s vital that they here from as many of us as possible so they know how much the public opposes the sale of foie gras! Please politely email them, inform them that you’d like to patronize their restaurant, and ask them to no longer serve foie gras so that you can be able to eat there!

Email: info@gaylephiladelphia.com, vintagewinebar@yahoo.com

Also, please send a quick Letter to the Editor of the Daily News thanking them for running “Veggie Interesting” in Thursday’s paper (Jan. 31) and encouraging them to run more vegetarian-related stories!

Want to Get More Active for Animals?

Want to help animals but don’t have a lot of time to spare? Want to get more active to help farm animals and educate the public about the cruelties of factory farming? We need you! HFP is currently seeking a few good
volunteers to help us with our regular veg leafleting in Center City and at colleges, concerts, and festivals. This year we hope to personally hand 100,000 Philadelphia-area residents a booklet on the realities of factory farming and the benefits of going veg, but we need your help to make it possible! If you can donate a few hours a week, or a few hours a month, you can make a huge difference for animals! Leafletting is one of the most effective forms of advocacy, and we are constantly receiving word of people who went vegetarian or vegan as a result of getting a leaflet from us! Our 2007 leafleting saved an estimated 30,000 animals from living a life of suffering on a factory farm this year – join us in making a difference!

If you are interested in helping us, please contact us at info@hugsforpuppies.org

We hold many leafleting events that are NOT promoted on our listserve (because they are held during the week or in the evening). To hear about all our leafleting events and to get active, join our PhillyVegLeafletting list by clicking here ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PhillyVegOutreach ).

Another Restaurant is Foie-Gras Free

Red Sky Restaurant and Lounge informed HFP last week that it is no longer serving foie gras and does not plan to in the future. Congratulations to Red Sky for making the right decision!

Animal-Friendly Marketplace & Media

The Super Bowl is now over but all-pro NFL tight end Tony Gonzalez is ready to show you how to make a healthy vegan protein shake to shape up for the new year! Courtesy of the Wall Street Journal, which ran a great piece on Tony and other vegan pro athletes, the video can be seen on HugsTV by clicking here!
