Valanni Restaurant Pulling Foie Gras Off the Menu! Plus a Second Restaurant Confirms – No More Foie!

After two months of leafletings, protests, and emails and letters from customers, and after learning more about the practices of its supplier, Valanni Restaurant has decided to end its sale of foie gras! A big THANK YOU to all who have attended demos or sent emails to Valanni on the issue! No more will ducks be painfully force-fed to fill the menu at Valanni Restaurant.

Please take one moment to email Valanni’s chef and manager and THANK THEM for choosing to take foie gras off the menu! Be sure to let them know that you plan to come patronize their restaurant at 1229 Spruce
St. (they do offer vegetarian options), and that you will encourage friends and co-workers to do the same, in response to their decision to say no to foie gras! Please email them at:  evan@valanni.com, chris@valanni.com

In other good news, Mercato Restaurant has confirmed that they are no longer serving foie gras and will not be doing so in the future. Mercato’s chef informed us last week that the restaurant has not served foie gras since she took over as chef, and they will not be doing so as long as she’s there as she finds foie gras to be an unethical product. Kudos to Mercato for their compassionate decision, and please consider supporting this restaurant as well!

HLP Is Seeking a Video Editor (Experienced or Amateur)!

HLP is collaborating with a network and cable television station in Philadelphia to produce and run a series of five minute segments on topics having to do with vegan eating, factory farming, and fur. These segments are guaranteed to air a minimum of 18 times each, and will effectively educate tens of thousands about a more animal-friendly lifestyle. However, to take advantage of this opportunity we are in need of someone with video editing experience to help us put the programming together! If you or someone you know is a film student, video editing professional, or even an amateur video editor with some experience, please contact us at info@thehumaneleague.com . Thank you for helping us make this incredible opportunity a reality!

Rescued Dogs In Need of a Home!

Two dogs rescued by The Humane League of Philadelphia from the streets of Philadelphia are in need of loving homes! Mr. Bones (bottom left) was found wandering the streets in South Philadelphia, emaciated and looking as if he was on death’s door. However with a lot of food and a little love Mr. Bones is now starting to put on weight and is looking for an adoptive home. He is a very happy, social and energetic dog, and is good with other dogs as well as cats and people. Emma (bottom right) was abandoned by her owner in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia and had been living on the street for several weeks before being rescued. She is healthy and has been vetted, received her shots, and been spayed. Emma is very loyal and good with other dogs. If you or someone you know are able to provide a home to one of these sweet dogs, please contact us at info@thehumaneleague.com or call 516-503-4403 .
