Veg Outreach Team Rocks the Warped Tour – 102,400 Veg Leaflets Distributed in Two and a Half Weeks!

Over the course of the last two and a half weeks in July, and over a distance of 5,000 miles, our dedicated veg outreach team personally handed the truth about factory farming to over 100,000 teenagers attending the Vans Warped Tour music festival! From Detroit to Charlotte to Boston, Humane League of Philly volunteers traveled with the tour for 13 dates, giving out 6-10,000 leaflets in each city. Already there have been dozens of orders for vegetarian starter kits from people who received a brochure from us during the tour, and we heard from many others along the tour that they planned on going vegetarian after seeing the cruel realities of factory farming. We also heard from a number of folks who said they went vegetarian after getting a booklet from us at last year’s Warped Tour! Thank you very much to our dedicated volunteers who sacrificed sleep, comfort, and income in order to do so much good for animals! Also a big thank you to all of those who donated to the Humane League to help make this tour the phenomenal success that it was! This is by far the largest and most effective veg leafleting endeavor we’ve ever done, and we look to build on our success with our continuing college veg leafleting program this fall!

Major Announcement:  Humane League of Philadelphia Partnering with the Humane League of Baltimore!

Over the past two months, the Humane League of Philadelphia has begun partnering with our friends at the Humane League of Baltimore (formerly the Baltimore Animal Rights Coalition). HLB is a fantastic organization that we have been working on and off with for the past four years. In the past year, HLB has made headlines in numerous local papers and magazines for their successful foie gras campaign (with over a dozen restaurants having dropped the dish). HLB also has a very strong veg outreach program, and with our support they have been dramatically expanding their veg leafleting, initiated an veg e-leafleting program, and launched 10 vegetarian starter kit stands around Baltimore. Humane League of Baltimore Director Aaron Ross recently joined us for the entirety of our Warped Tour veg outreach tour, giving away tens of thousands of leaflets and helping enable the tour to be a great success. While the Humane League of Philadelphia and the Humane League of Baltimore are separate and independent organizations, we will continue to work with them and support their efforts to grow, as both of our organizations work to be an increasingly effective voice for animals! We strongly urge you to check out their website and work now via our NEW homepage – www.TheHumaneLeague.com !

Mark Your Calendars! Major Protest/Outreach Event Saturday August 23 With Playboy Model Daniela V!

As many of you have already read about in our Summer print newsletter, the Humane League of Philadelphia has recently launched Compassion In Fashion – a MySpace outreach page promoting fur-free fashion and cruelty-free cosmetics – in conjunction with Playboy model Daniela V (who is currently featured in the June/July 2008 Playboy Special Edition)!  On Saturday August 23, Daniela V will be joining the Humane League of Philadelphia for a special protest against Burberry’s on Walnut St. for their continued sale of fur! Burberry has been targeted for the past year by PETA, and our event will generate added pressure on this upscale chain to remove fur from its racks this upcoming winter season!

Daniela will be happy to say hello and sign autographs for any animal-friendly fans, and we are expecting media to come, so please mark your calendars – it is important that we have a HUGE impact on Burberry! Please join us in speaking out against the horrors of the fur industry!

Event time and date: 2 pm, Saturday August 23
Event location: In front of the Burberry Clothing Store, 1705 Walnut St.,
Center City Philadelphia
