Running For The Animals – Team Vegan Philly!

The Humane League of Philly is very excited to announce the launch of Team Vegan Philly, a group of vegan and vegetarians who will be running in 8k, half-marathon, and marathon races this fall in order to
raise money for the veg outreach programs of the Humane League and CARE (Compassion for Animals, Respect for the Environment)!

Made up of both amateur joggers and experienced marathon runners, team members will be competing in either the ING Distance Run on September 21 or the Philadelphia Marathon, Half-Marathon, or 8k race on November 23 (their choice).

While our team is already a dozen members strong, we need you! Whether you’re an experienced runner or a total novice, we would love to have you joining with us to run for the billions of animals suffering on factory farms! We will provide help with training and nutrition tips, group runs for those interested, and help with fundraising. For more info and to meet some of the other runners, please visit http://www.TeamVeganPhilly.com !

Major Veg Outreach Event This Sunday!

Please join us this Sunday as we distribute veg leaflets at the Manayunk Arts Festival on Main St. in downtown Manayunk! This annual festival draws an estimated 350,000 visitors and is a perfect opportunity to share the realities of factory farming with a large number of people! We will be meeting at 1 pm in Manayunk, if you able to join us please contact us at info@thehumaneleague.com to RSVP and make arrangements to meet up! We have already distributed over 50,000 leaflets this year, convincing many to go veg or vegan!

"I picked up a pamphlet called 'Why Vegetarian?' [from you] in Philly. I've been gradually going vegan and have decided to actually commit to it and go completely vegan. Thanks for your help!"
     -Received June 3

Please join us this Sunday for fun and effective veg outreach (and of course, you can also take some time to browse the arts festival!)

Our new Humane League of Philadelphia t-shirts are in stock, and 100% of the proceeds from their sale will go towards our online ChooseVeg.com advertisements. The profits from each shirt sold are enough to create one new vegetarian per shirt sold with these very effective online ads! (Really!! This statement is based on rigorous data collection from our online ad campaign over the past 10 months, which shows that for each $8-$12 dollars spent, one new person goes vegetarian!)

So what are you waiting for? Order your shirt today, save 40 animals, and show your support for The Humane League! All shirts are sylish American Apparel T’s, made in the USA, printed by a vegetarian company, and printed with water-based ink (most t-shirts use toxic PVC-based inks). We also offer 100% organic cotton t’s (currently only in Small and Large sizes) for only $2 more!

Animal-Friendly Lifestyle: New Veg Restaurant in Philly!

Attention all South St. visitors and nearby residents! As the number of vegetarians and vegans continues to climb, more and more veg or veg-friendly restaurants are opening up.

The newest is Café Grindstone, a totally-vegetarian coffeehouse just off South St. that features coffees and smoothies as well as a variety of vegetarian (many of them vegan) sandwiches such as UnChicken, Veggie Sausage, and more! The prices are lower than you’ll find elsewhere, and to top it off Café Grindstone also features a small selection of vegan desserts including cookies and mini-donuts! The funky feel (complete with old furniture, DJ events, and eclectic artwork) fits in well on South St, and the staff is very outgoing and friendly.

Café Grindstone is located at 622 S. 5th St. (on 5th Street a half-block below South St), and their phone number is 267-230-8917.
