Supper Restaurant
Goes Foie Gras-Free!
A hearty thank-you to Supper Restaurant (926 South St) which has gone foie gras-free, joining the
ranks of dozens of top Philly restaurants that are no longer serving this
cruel dish!
As a
thank you to Supper for their compassionate decision, please consider making
them your next dinner destination! Supper features many vegetarian
selections, as well as a number of dishes that can be made vegan upon

Supper’s Warm Vegetable Salad is featured in this month’s Philadelphia
Magazine, and Chef/Owner Mitch Prensky informed the
Humane League that “As a chef I am very inspired by vegetables and the
flavors and natural beauty of these items…I hope to see you soon!”

New Website
Launched: VegNJ.com!
After the great
success of VegPA.net (which launched earlier this year to major press
coverage, and has approximately 200 visitors per week), HLP teamed up with
the New Jersey Animal Rights Alliances and of course our friends at Mercy for
Animals and is now proud to announce the launch of VegNJ.com ! Featuring nearly 400
restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries, bars and caterers, this website is a
must-see for anyone who lives in or visits New Jersey! Like VegPA.net, the site is easy
to search by city or region, and contains helpful info like menu offerings,
hours of operation, and directions to each location. So log on today, and
please share this site with any friends, family, or co-workers that live in New Jersey! http://www.VegNJ.com
Campaign Updates
Thanks to the help of many, this
past weekend HLP was busy spreading the word against animal cruelty. Our
First Friday veg outreach went well, with 1,050 veg leaflets distributed in Center City, including to teachers and others
who asked for handfuls to pass out to their classes or friends. On Saturday,
a dozen volunteers joined us for hard-hitting foie gras demos against Jake’s Restaurant in Manayunk for their sale of foie
gras, as well as a second demonstration against Valanni Restaurant. On Sunday, several volunteers joined
us for outreach at the Gay Pride Parade (with a vegan food table set up by
MFA and CARE) and Odunde Festivals, with over 2,000
veg leaflets distributed. (Above: Philadelphia 76ers center Samuel Dalembert joins a HLP picketer outside of Jake’s
Restaurant in Manayunk to say NO! to foie gras)
Animal-Friendly
Media: Vegan Treats on “Good Day”!
Fox-29’s “Good Day Philadelphia” program featured a fantastic and lengthy piece
last week on Vegan Treats bakery, the rockstars and
movie stars who can’t get enough, and ways that
anyone can switch to dairy- and egg-free desserts! This is a great, very
positive piece, and you can watch it here: http://tinyurl.com/57muum
Also in
animal-friendly media, the latest edition of VegCast
(the Philadelphia-based vegetarian podcast)
features in an interview with Maria Pandolfi of
Philly’s Rat Chick Rat Rescue, as she discusses this weekend’s Fab Rat Festival! You can listen to the podcast at www.vegcast.com
, and join us this Saturday at the HLP today at the Fab
Rat Fest!
