- Veg Outreach and Advertising
The
single best thing that any person can do to help animals is adopt a vegan
diet, and one of the Humane League of Philadelphia's most effective campaigns
is its veg outreach programs. Our outreach and advertising campaigns reach
hundreds of thousands of people each year with images and information
about the cruel realities of animal agriculture, and with information
and resources that make it fun and easy to go veg!
Veg leafletting,
distributing comprehensive booklets on factory farming and the
benefits of a veg diet, represents the largest portion of our veg outreach
efforts. In the past year The Humane League handed booklets to over 200,000
people on college campuses, at concerts and festivals, and on city streets.
We hold many leafleting outreach events throughout the course of the year,
so please sign up for our e-newsletter and join us at an upcoming event!
Our veg leafleting would not be possible without the generous support
of the organization Vegan
Outreach, which supplies us with our materials.
The Humane League also distributes tens of thousands of Vegetarian
Starter Kits each year through our street newsstand boxes in
Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and through tabling at public
events and festivals. Each kit provides detailed information on the health,
environmental, and animal welfare benefits of adopting a veg diet, as
well as delicious recipes, nutrition information, and veg product guides.
To make veg eating
more convenient and enjoyable, the Humane League of Philadelphia maintains
VegPA.net
(click to visit) and VegNJ.com
(click to visit) in
conjunction with our friends at Mercy
for Animals. Each site provides a comprehensive listing of hundreds
of vegetarian-friendly restaurants and grocery stores throughout Pennsylvania
and New Jersey, and includes maps, hours of operation, menu suggestions,
and other details for each listing.
Each year we distribute thousands of copies of our Greater Philadelphia
Vegetarian Eating Guide, a handy carry-along guide that makes
veg eating in the Greater Philadelphia a snap.
We've also taken our advocacy efforts online, through
"e-leafletting"
- targeted outreach on MySpace - and through online internet advertisements
promoting ChooseVeg.com.
Our online internet ads generate tens of thousands of visits to the comprehensive
ChooseVeg website and hundreds of Vegetarian Starter Kit requests. Our
e-leafletting program brings videos of factory farming and the resources
to go veg onto the screens of tens of thousands of area teenagers, college
students, and others in their early twenties.
Lastly, in collaboration with local vegan chef Rachel
Klein we've produced a series of vegan cooking shows
which will be repeatedly aired on regional PBS television stations over
the next few years.
All of our outreach programs are ongoing, and we welcome your support
and involvement in helping us reach even more people with the cruel realities
of animal agriculture and information on how each person can say no to
that cruelty!
